Repair-forward exterior work

A lot of what I do in Shawnee starts as a paint call and turns out to be a repair call with paint at the end. That's not upselling; it's what the walkaround finds. Soft fascia behind a gutter line, a split trim board that's been taking water at a miter, damaged siding on the weather side, a garage door jamb that's rotted at the slab where water sat against it. Coating any of that is money spent on a finish with nothing solid underneath it.

Wood rot repair is the same process every time: find the moisture source, cut back to solid material, replace with new primed lumber, seal the joints that should be sealed, and leave open the gaps that need to drain. When boards come off and the sheathing behind them is dark, stained, or delaminated, that gets addressed too — the weather barrier repaired and lapped correctly and flashings installed or corrected before new siding goes on. Nailing new siding over wet sheathing looks identical from the street on day one and identical to a failure two years later.

Matching, painting, and putting the house back

On a repair, matching is half the result. Profile, exposure, and texture all read from the street — board-and-batten, lap siding, shakes, and fiber cement each have their own reveal and shadow line, and a patch with the wrong exposure is visible even after paint. Where a profile is no longer made, replacing a slightly larger continuous area so the transition lands at a natural break looks far better than a mismatch mid-wall.

Then the repaint gets planned so the patch doesn't read as a patch. On a spot repair that usually means coating the full elevation instead of just the new boards, because a fresh rectangle on a sun-faded wall stands out more than the damage did. That's a conversation during the quote, not after.

Interior work runs the same way — patch, caulk, prime, two coats, harder enamel on trim and doors — and where a wall has been opened up for a repair, the drywall gets floated wide, sanded with the doorways sealed and returns covered, primed, and then painted.
