The version I do washes the surfaces that carry film, cuts and feathers cracks wide instead of skimming them, resets and patches nail pops, caulks the trim-to-wall joints with something flexible, spot-primes every repair so it doesn't flash, and applies two finish coats with a harder enamel on trim and doors that gets the overnight it needs. Where a wall or ceiling needs more than patching, the drywall gets floated wide, sanded with the dust contained, and primed with a drywall primer so the seams don't show through as dull bands.
